Fit for REACH-2 Expands: Hungary Joins the Fight for Safer Chemicals Management

The LIFE Fit for REACH-2 (FFR-2) project, which aims to improve chemical risk management (CRM) and sustainable practices in businesses, is making strides beyond the Baltic region. With a vision to replicate the success of Baltic companies in other countries, the initiative is now expanding into Central and Eastern Europe. Poland has joined the project consortium, and Hungary is set to become the first focus country for this replication effort.

The Hungarian campaign will be spearheaded by KÖVET Association for Sustainable Economies, a leading non-profit organization promoting environmentally responsible business practices. Founded in 1995, KÖVET has over 71 member companies and is dedicated to advancing sustainable management through training, workshops, and professional services.

Under the FFR-2 project, KÖVET will implement the following activities to support Hungarian companies:

  1. Information Days: At least three events will be held to engage Hungarian businesses and introduce them to the project's goals.
  2. Consulting Services: KÖVET will collaborate with 5–10 companies, assisting them in identifying chemical issues, creating inventories, and implementing manageable CRM solutions.
  3. Training Sessions: Three to five training sessions will be organized for companies and associations, hosting 15–25 participants to provide practical guidance on CRM implementation.

This expansion leverages the shared historical and economic contexts of Central and Eastern European countries, particularly their common legacy of planned economies under Soviet rule. The similarity in challenges and opportunities enhances the transferability potential of CRM practices developed under the Fit for REACH project.

“We are proud to announce Hungary as the first country in this replication effort,” the project team stated. “KÖVET’s expertise will be instrumental in introducing effective chemical risk management practices to Hungarian businesses.”

The campaign in Hungary marks an important step toward spreading CRM awareness and fostering sustainable business practices across the region. Welcome to the FFR-2 team, KÖVET, and best of luck with your mission to enhance chemical safety in Hungary!
