LIFE Fit for REACH-2 expert partners met in Jurmala

Last week, we met with the expert partners of the LIFE Fit for REACH-2 project in Jurmala. Before the partner meeting, we had a very exciting opportunity to visit Getliņi EKO, Latvia's leading waste management company, located near Riga. This company manages the largest and most modern municipal waste landfill in the Baltic States. What makes this company particularly special is that it produces heat from bio-waste, which is used to heat greenhouses where tomatoes and cucumbers are grown for sale. We will share a separate post about our visit to Getliņi EKO in the near future.

During the subsequent partner meeting, the focus was on reviewing the current status of the project and discussing all the important ongoing activities. The main discussion topics included: cooperation with companies, chemicals in environmental management systems (ISO/EMAS), the training program, and waste management issues.

We received a very interesting overview of the project's activities in Hungary, where several events have taken place, and work with companies is about to begin. The first steps have also been taken to expand the project's activities in Slovakia. It is also worth mentioning that, in addition to partner companies, work is ongoing with nearly 40 companies in the Baltic States and Poland.
